Water Leak Alarms London
What is a Water Leak Alarm?
A Water Leak Alarm is an electronic device that notifies you whenever it comes into contact with moisture. Very much like a smoke detector, but for water leaks.
These types of alarms are also known as damp sensors, leak alarms and leak detectors. They can be utilised in any domestic or comercial building to signal habitants to the presence of damp or water promptly to ensure potential damage can be minimised by addressing what caused it as soon as the problem is picked up. The basic idea is that they will alert the user to leaks before any major damage occurs.
They are usually about the same size as a smoke alarm and the batteries can be changed in the same way. These water leak alarms or water leak alarms have sensor feet on them or side of the case, which can be calibrated during the time of setting up to log the current surface moisture content levels as normal, and, only if this moisture content is surpassed, will the Water Leak Alarm set off.
A Water Leak Alarm is typically over 80 decibels: That’s about the same level as a hoover, if you are the one performing the hoovering. Contact us now to get a zero cost estimate for your Water Leak Alarm or leak alarm installation.
How Does a Water Leak Alarm System Work?
Leak alarm systems typically run off of batteries. We also offer wired and automated Water Leak Alarm systems or leak alarm systems that can be integrated into your smoke or fire safety systems (if you have these).
However, for basic, low cost water alert systems, the units that we can provide and install without planned works and without wiring into an existing system or augmenting the electrics to provide a power supply, are battery powered.
The sensor on a water leak alarm is located to the side of the case as well as on the feet of the Water Leak Alarm as mentioned earlier: it contains two thin wires, located a tiny length apart. When ever damp has contact with both wires, the resistance amongst the two is lessened, permitting the current to travel via the circuit to the alarm, that’s activated and alerts anybody near the leak.

I contacted James de Miguel after a recommendation from a friend. My brand new house developed a series of cracks on the exterior walls and after numerous failed attempts by local builders, surveyors and even the original architect, to try and identify the cause of these cracks I had no clue what to do next. Thankfully, James was able to identify the exact cause of the issues and handed me a detailed report on what had caused the cracking and the next steps to take in order to remedy them. I couldn’t be happier with the result.
I have been working with James de Miguel for a few years now and can honestly say that I have not come across a more savvy surveyor when it comes to fault finding. James is switched on, his reports are always on time and he has never failed to deliver. I would wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone seeking a definitive answer as to what exactly is going wrong with their building. I now consult with James on all projects I undertake as his input is vital to the success of my projects. A big thank you to James and his team.
I have been building houses for over 10 years and from time to time, new builds develop faults that can be tricky to trace. We brought in James de Miguel to provide us with a report on where we were going wrong with a rather complicated new build that involved a basement that was allowing water ingress. Within half an hour of being on site James and his colleagues identified the issues and provided the exact steps to fix them. Without his survey, I feel we would of been chasing our own tails for days if not weeks, trying to find out why we had so much water ingress. James has saved us time and money and we are very grateful that we found him.
